Are you guys ready for the most taboo topic of all? Today, we’re getting up-close, crazy-personal, and wildly clear about pricing. If you’re curious about what custom website copywriting costs, or you’ve reached out to inquire about our services but aren’t positive you’re ready to invest yet, this is a perfect piece to read to gather insight and information about what you’ll be investing in our custom services and why. Let’s get to it.
There are two aspects of custom website copywriting you’ll see in a quote from us. The first is the actual copywriting portion—those are all of the hard-working words you’ll receive to put on your website. This portion of your project is charged per-page, with pricing based on the word count needed for each page.
The second is the content strategy piece. This is charged based on the amount of webpages in your scope. This includes all of the time Tayler, our crazy-talented content strategist, takes to develop a custom outline for each web page based on your distinct goals and what we think will work best to capture—then qualify—leads and drive them seamlessly through the sales funnel that is your site.
This also includes time spent developing your SEO plan. Tayler will research and narrow down the top SEO keywords for me to incorporate into your website as I’m writing to help you capture organic search traffic. Tayler’s marketing mind is one of the sharpest I’ve ever come across. She’s spent years helping wedding pros and female entrepreneurs develop sound strategies to propel their brand forward—and I can confidently say she is the best in the business. Having her eyes and insight on your project is worth its weight in gold—but, luckily, we’re not charging the price of gold.
Absolutely! Nine out of ten business owners don’t know the word count they need when they reach out—that’s totally normal (and that’s what we’re here for!). We live and breathe the word-count language everyday. After our initial call, taking a peek at what you have in mind for your web design, and developing an understanding of your distinct goals—we’ll recommend what count we think you’ll need (200, 350, or 500) to best support your needs. Typically, 350 or 500 is the ideal length, whereas 200 is reserved for pages that are image-heavy and only need a light amount of copy.
The word counts include headlines, subheads, body copy, copy for CTA (call-to-action) buttons, and headlines to tee up testimonial blocks (while the testimonials themselves are not part of the word count).
These hours are absolutely required—we don’t book any website copywriting projects without them. (Even if Tayler is not on your project for some reason, you’ll still be paying for me—GG!—to dive into research, create your detailed outline, and develop your custom SEO plan.) Copywriting without content strategy is sort of like a sandwich without bread (and carbs, as I like to say on way too many occasions as an Italian, are lifeblood). Content strategy and SEO are a massive piece of the puzzle—it’s where we spend hours building the strong foundation for the words I write to thrive, which is why this piece is charged separately. Without strategy, you’re simply getting writing, not copywriting (and you’re way too smart to build your business out of a house of cards).
That’s a great question! Most clients book us for the three “heavy hitter” pages (home, about, services), and the scope looks something like this:
Another great question! But, remember, you’re not paying for words on your website, you’re paying for the sales from those words. Hiring an experienced copywriter and content strategist is an investment in your business, plain and simple. Our clients have had incredible conversions, increased newsletter sign ups, and immediate sales come as a result of our copy (just check our testimonials for wedding copywriting and for creative copywriting; you’ll see what I mean).
Strategic words on your website work in a number of ways:
As much as we love good conversation, we certainly don’t want to waste your precious time, which is why we ask that you only book your discovery call if you feel confident and ready to invest in custom website copywriting. During our busier seasons, we have a waitlist going to ensure we can meet with everyone who wants to use our services; securing a spot on that waitlist when you aren’t ready to invest only serves to take that spot from another small business owner who is ready to invest.
While we absolutely want to support you and your brand’s growth, we do not offer website copywriting discounts, and we do not alter our prices based on your budget. Regardless of how great of a negotiator you might be, I can promise you as a child who grew up with four other siblings and only one bathroom: you won’t be able to talk us down on pricing (desperately fighting for sink-time every morning really teaches a girl how to stand her ground).
